Achilles Amateur Athletic Association

Achilles is one of the oldest established running clubs in Port Elizabeth and for that matter the Eastern Cape Province, having been established in 1936.

The club has its “home” at the Walmer Golf Club in River Road in the leafy suburb of Walmer.  The facilities at the club are excellent and runners can enjoy a hot shower and a few beers after a run. The bar and deck area overlooks the golf course, estate and Baakens Valley and one can even see the Lady Slipper in the distance on clear evenings.

Visitors are always very welcome and we enjoy large support of non-members on our training runs. Runners wishing to join the club are encouraged to attend the club runs in order for the aspiring members to see if Achilles is the running club for them, before they apply for membership.  Club Runs are run on Tuesday and Thursday Evenings from Walmer Golf Club at 5.30pm and distances range from 5km to 16km.  There is also the option of a Trail Run route on most Thursday evenings.

The club is well represented in both cross country and road running and our members have performed well in both the local league competitions and the SA Champs, in shorter distances as well as marathon races.  Road running is however the dominant area of participation.
