The River Mile

Africa's oldest open water swimming event

Our 97th year is going to be SOMEWHAT different as we look at a new and desperate look this year to try and ensure the history of the River Mile continues despite the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Hosted in Nelson Mandela Bay, The River Mile (yes a 1 Mile  - 1.6km - swim) will be celebrating it's 97th Anniversary in 2021 and in these 97 years, the race has only not taken place on 5 occassions due to WW2.

THIS YEAR we will be hosting the Men's & Ladies Mile events ONLY and these will take place on Saturday 27th Feb 2021 with no formal prize giving, no crafters or food vendors and no Beer Garden.

Entry into the secure event area is ONLY for participants and there will be no charge.  EVERYBODY within the slipway grounds is required to wear a mask at ALL TIMES and adhere to strict social distancing guidelines.
