Official Race Briefing

RACE DAY

  • Transition open 06h45
  • Report to Zsports Registration Trailer 
  • Ensure your LEFT hand is body marked with your race number
  • You will receive a race wrist band (no race stickers for the Development Series events)
  • If racks are numbered, ensure you rack your bicycle on your allocated Race number (we alternate even and odd numbers)
  • Arrange personal equipment as you need it beneath your bicycle
  • A small towel is allowed on the ground with race equipment on top
  • Once done - proceed to start area on the Metro walkway
    • 08:30 Standard Distance
    • 08:31 Super-Sprint Distance 
    • 08:45 Sprint Distance
  • For the Development Series, only finish times will be provided for athletes.

 
DUATHLON EVENTS

POLLOK BEACH - RACE BRIEFING

Please ensure that you read all content and links on this page.

1st RUN

  • The first run will be clockwise around the run route starting on the Metro Walkway/Cycle Route.
  • Head along the Metro Pedestrian Cycle Path all the way to Hobie Beach slipway, right turn onto the pedestrian walkway closest to the sea and return to Pollok Beach.
  • At Pollok Beach, nearest the Lifesaving Club, run across the car park on the marked Zebra Crossing.
  • Aid station with water and Khula Cola will be situated at the run lap half way point. 
  • It is the responsibility of the athlete to count their own laps.
  • One lap Super-Sprint Distance, Two laps Sprint Distance and Three laps for Standard Distance.
  • No littering will be tolerated.
  • Head into Transition (T1) at the Run/Bike IN gate.

CYCLE

  • Drafting is only permitted for the Sprint and Super-Sprint distances, No-Drafting for Standard Distance
  • Ensure helmet is fastened before taking bike off rack
  • Mount / Dismount before line provided
  • The cycle course will comprise of a 20km lap
    • Super-Sprint Half a lap (turning just past University Marine Drive Gates)
    • Sprint ONE Laps
    • Standard TWO laps
  • It is the responsibility of the athlete to count their own laps
  • No aid station on the cycle route
  • No littering will be tolerated.
  • Penalties will be served in T2 after the Cycle Leg

2nd RUN

  • The 2nd run lap will comprise of a 2.5km anti-clockwise route between Pollok Beach and Hobie Beach
  • Exit T2 and then RIGHT turn to cross parking area on the Zebra Crossing and onto the Pedestrian walkway along the sea edge.
  • Follow this path to Hobie Beach slipway where you'll LEFT TURN onto the Metro Cycle Path to return to Transition area. 
  • Aid station with water and Khula Cola will be situated at the run lap half way point. Aid station is strictly SELF SERVICE (Covid Protocol).
  • It is the responsibility of the athlete to count their own laps.
  • Half a Lap Super-Sprint Distance, One Lap Sprint Distance and Two laps for Standard Distance.
  • No littering will be tolerated.
  • On last lap, turn right into the road alongside transition to finish under the finish Tower.

 


TRIATHLON EVENTS

POLLOK BEACH - RACE BRIEFING

SWIM

  • Half (super-sprint), One (Sprint) or Two (Standard) lap swim in an anti-clockwise direction (starting near Pipe and ending in front of Clubhouse)
  • Between Laps, exit water and run around marker flag in middle of the beach as pointed out on the start line
  • No Aid station provided for Swim Leg
  • Use of Swimbuoys is not permitted
  • If assistance is required, please raise hand and call nearest water safety officer. If necessary, please assist fellow athletes requiring assistance
  • On exit, run through the Lifesaving Club car park and into the Transition area (T1) to get bicycle.

CYCLE

  • Draft legal for Super and Sprint distance events, Non-Drafting for Standard Distance
  • Ensure helmet is fastened before taking bike off rack
  • Mount / Dismount before line provided
  • The cycle course will comprise of a 20km lap
    • Super-Sprint Half a Lap
    • Sprint ONE Laps
    • Standard TWO laps
  • It is the responsibility of the athlete to count their own laps
  • No dedicated aid station on the cycle route
  • No littering will be tolerated.
