Rules & Regulations

The Series Rules

The Triathlon Summer Series is run in accordance with the ITU and TSA race rules. NMBT Officials, NMBT Referees and marshals are in place on race day, ensuring the safety of athletes at all times.

  • A compulsory full race briefing will be conducted before each race (for a typical briefing summary - click here) - Technical Officials briefing on the morning takes preference over all over rules and regulations posted on this page.
  • It is the athlete's responsibility to know the specifc race route - marshals are not there to guide you but to try ensure your safety
  • No unsportsmanlike behaviour will be permitted. Any abuse of race official(s), marshal(s), traffic officer(s) or competitor(s) could lead to disqualification from the race and/or the Series
  • Minimum age for Sprint Distance triathlon is 16 yrs for individuals, 12 yrs for team members. Where a team consists of just 2 members, children between the ages of 12 and 14 may only do ONE leg.
  • For this Series, the minimum age requirement is takes in the year of the upcoming Championships
  • Any product prizes offered are by attendance only and will not be kept for the original winner thereof.
  • Race organisers and NMB Triathlon officials decisions are final

Swim

  • Participants to supply their OWN Swim caps - only brightly coloured swim caps are allowed (NO black, white, silver, blue or green).
  • No swim cap, no race
  • Wetsuits are permitted in accordance with water temperatures on the morning
  • Currently the use of SWIMBUOYS are NOT permitted in official triathlon events.
Triathlon Summer Series - Port Elizabeth 

Cycle

  • No Helmet, no ride
  • Only approved (undamaged) hard shell helmets are permitted and these will be inspected on check in
  • Helmets to be clipped on and worn during the Cycle Leg and not be unclipped or removed until bike is racked
  • No cycling is permitted in or around the transition area
  • Tri-bikes and/or Tribars ARE permitted and all bar ends must be properly plugged
  • Upper body garment must be worn
  • Traffic rules and officials must be obeyed - road closures are in effect along the bike route
  • A time cut-off of 10am (2hrs) will be applied on the cycle route
  • Supplied race number must be worn on race belt (facing backwards)
  • Cycle leg is DRAFT LEGAL and in the instance of a bunch, ONLY the front rider may be on their tribars.
  • STRICTLY no littering permitted
Triathlon Summer Series - Port Elizabeth 

Run

  • Upper body garment must be worn
  • No outside assistance permitted
  • Strictly no littering permitted
  • Supplied race number must be worn on your race belt (facing forwards)

PLEASE NOTE: We are sharing public areas for this event (Beach Road & Marine Drive for the Cycle and the Metro cycle paths between Pollok Beach and Hobie Beach for the Run) - It is the RESPONSIBILITY of the participant to look out for members of the public in such areas and give them right of way where necessary. 

Results on this website are live throughout the event.

On each Race Morning, a prize giving for the Top 3 in each race will be held at 09h30 together with some lucky draw attendance prizes.
